Types of pimps
Before outlining
the possible types of pimps, it is worth clarifying that today who are called
pimps in the context of sex industry, and what sort of behaviour goes with it. There
is a wide range of pimps in the world of sex business, regarding their behavior
and business models.
Pimp is the person,
usually a male, who in some form and extent exerts pressure on the escort to
make her to work, manages sex business, and provides certain services for her (e.g.
protection). A pimp can be a person who is familiar with the escort trade, and
help the escort without harming her. These pimps are usually a kind of manager
with a good business sense in order to make the sex business as profitable as
possible both for him and the escort. As a matter of fact, as it has been said
about the types of escorts, not all escorts are able to manage the processes
involved in connection with escort work (booking an apartment in a foreign
country, overcoming linguistic barriers, creating security, searching for sex
clients, etc.), so a pimp can come in handy for these escorts. Pimpery costs
money that is deducted from the escort’s earning in some percentage.
If we want to
categorize pimps, the above mentioned type of pimp is the fair one. The fairness can be observed in the pimp’s
participation in managing the sex business and the fairly distribution of the
earnings, with the proportion of 50 percent for each. This may sound much
first, but if a pimp does his job well, then both of them can only win.
Pimping or
pimpery in the escort industry has a negative echo, because there are so many
pimps in the world of escorts who are not at all fair to the escort service
providers and, in addition, they tend to be violent as well. They are the group
of violent pimps. Violent pimps speak the language of power and intimidation,
and often terrorize the escorts to do their best as much as possible,
frequently using physical force, if the business isn’t going the way they would
expect. These pimps usually collect prospective escort girls from poor
countries or orphanages, and it is not common that they force them to do sex
work. Violent pimps do not choose the methods when it comes to money. To get a
little bit back on the protection of escorts: this is why so many countries prohibit
pimpery. They want to protect easily exploitable women from violent pimps who
sometimes skim 70-80% of the escorts’ earnings (if not all).
It is not
uncommon for escorts to have a partner, a cohabitant or a lover besides the sex
work. These escorts live in a pink fog when they believe they will eventually find
a man who accepts them as an escort girl. These escort girls just do not know
that here the love is only one-sided and the boyfriend, in fact, is just a pimp
playing the role of a boyfriend. These lover pimps deceive money from escorts
under the pretense of being a boyfriend. They are actually kept men,
golddiggers who are able to collect money from escort girls so aptly that escorts
do not even seem to be aware of the unpalatable fact that the boyfriend is
actuially a pimp. These lover pimps parasitize on escort girls for years, and
it is also not uncommon that they have more iron in the fire. Their
characteristic feature is that they can change loving attitudes for the violent
one in a second. This happens when an escort finds out that the boyfriend, whom
she is living with, is a pimp, who is just taking the advantage of her. Such pimps
are dangerous and difficult to get rid of. Lover pimps can be divided into two
more subgroups. One of them is those who get together with an escort who is already
working in the escort trade, and the other who deliberately pick up emotionally
unstable girls and then get or force them to work as an escort. These pimps usually
do not do their share in the escort trade (management of the escort, defence
etc.), as the only thing they do is just skim the money the escort girl earns.
The next pimp
type is the ‘father’ or ‘caring’ kind of pimp. As the name indicates, this pimp
patronizes and listens to her, giving her advice in case of problems. Perhaps
the main criterion for the patronizing or caring pimp is that they mostly pimp
girls trapped in a traumatic childhood trauma who need a man who cares for them
(father complex). But in fact, this pimp is far from being a good dad or a soul
companion as the only thing he wants is to get the girl to work for him and to
keep her in the profession as long as possible, skimming as much money as he
can. These pimps can easily manipulate escort girls with their goodness and fatherly
temperament can easily manipulate escort girls. And if it comes to money and
discipline – as lover pimps do it – these patronizing pimps can easily change from
a caring and kind father to an aggressive and violent boss at a glance.
As stated above,
not all pimps pose a threat to escorts, but on the contrary, the fair one can
do a lot to add something to the profession. There are difficulties with those
pimps that exploit the feelings and vulnerabilities of an escort to gain profit
on, and who do not manage their escort girls.
The mayority of
violent pimps comes from gangland, and it is not uncommon that they are a
member of a criminal organization specialized in human trafficking.
Escorts (especially
those coming from deep poverty) are unfortunately in a vulnerable situation,
and they either can hardly do or are unable to do anything to avoid the trap of
pimpery.
